How to use SMACNE: Your FAQs answered

By - November 10, 2020

We receive plenty of queries about SMANCE every day, and we try to cover the most commonly asked questions we get in our FAQ section, but we would also like to go into how to correctly use our product. So we want to create this guide to answer your usage-related questions and help you successfully incorporate SMACNE into your daily skin care routine. Let’s get started!

How do I use SMACNE?

The SMACNE system is made up of our is Exfoliating Aloe Cleanser and our Acne Treatment, which comes in two formulations: the original formulation, which is for mild to moderate acne, and the Severe Acne Treatment, which is for more stubborn, moderate to severe acne. To use, simply wash your face with our exfoliating cleanser, pat it dry gently with a soft towel, and apply the acne treatment.

How often should I use SMACNE?

For best results, use it twice daily—use it in the shower and at night, before bedtime.

Is it okay for:

  • Dry / oily / normal / combination skin? It works on all skin types, including combination skin!
  • Light / medium / dark skin? Yes, it works on all skin tones.
  • Girls / boys? It’s not just for girls—SMACNE works on everyone!

Is it safe for:

  • Young skin and teenagers? Yes, it’s safe for teenagers, but not for infants and toddlers.
  • Pregnant women? Yes, it’s safe for pregnant women!
  • Breastfeeding women? Yes, it’s also safe for breastfeeding women.
  • A tattooed face? Yes, it’s safe even if you have a tattooed face.

Does it work on fungal acne?

SMACNE works on fungal acne, but you have to remember that this type of acne is triggered by an imbalance in your hormones. You’ll have to make lifestyle changes together with this routine to get this under control, such as getting regular exercise, sleeping 6-8 hours every night, eating healthy food and avoiding sugar. You also have to manage your stress better—this will help SMACNE work better on your fungal acne.

Does it work on cystic or severe acne?

We have a Severe Acne Treatment specifically formulated for severe and cystic acne. It has 10% benzoyl peroxide, which kills bacteria and clears out impurities from deep within your pores. Other active ingredients are tea tree oil and glycolic acid, which stimulate the skin’s natural healing process. Use it twice daily after cleansing for best results.

Can I use it for:

  • Pimples? Yes! The benzoyl peroxide and tea tree oil in SMACNE are among the pimple-fighting active agents in the formula.
  • Whiteheads / blackheads? Yes! The salicylic acid in SMACNE gets rid of whiteheads and blackheads effectively.
  • Body acne, chest acne, back acne, scalp? SMACNE is only formulated for the face at the moment, but we’re working on developing a formulation for the rest of the body so stay tuned!

Can I use it if:

  • I have rosacea? Yes, SMACNE works on skin with acne even if you have rosacea.
  • I have eczema? Yes, SMACNE also works on skin with eczema.
  • I have psoriasis? Yes, SMACNE works on acne even if you have psoriasis!

Will SMACNE get rid of my acne scars?

Since SMACNE gently exfoliates and promotes cell regeneration, it helps improve the appearance of scars over time. But note that this will still depend on the depth and severity of your scar, as well as your skin type—that’s why we suggest you get the free trial kit and see how it works for you.

Will SMACNE help improve the appearance of my pores / dark spots?

As with the scars, because SMACNE exfoliates your skin, it will help improve the appearance of pores and gradually even out your skin tone. However, this still depends on how large your pores are, how dark your discoloration is, and  how your skin reacts depending on your skin type.

Can I use SMACNE with other products?

Yes, this is okay! You can use SMACNE with other skin care products like a moisturizer, especially if you have very dry skin, or a sunscreen especially if you’re exposed to the sun a lot. What we don’t recommend is using SMACNE with other cleansers and treatments. Excessive cleansing can strip your skin of its natural protective barrier, making it dry, irritated and susceptible to acne-causing bacteria; while combining treatments may cancel out the effects of our treatment if they’re not compatible with our ingredients, or may even be damaging to your skin if they end up making your skin either too oily or too dry. If you’re not ready to make the full switch right away, you can alternate using SMACNE and your cleanser—but don’t use it at the same time.

Of course, if you already have a go-to cleanser and you just want to use the SMACNE Acne Treatment, that’s perfectly fine too—but we recommend you use our cleanser and acne treatment together for the best results!

Is it safe to use SMACNE with retinol?

We recommend that you alternate your usage of SMACNE with retinol—for example, if you use SMACNE in the morning, use retinol in the evening and vice versa, or alternate the use of SMACNE and retinol every other day. This is to help avoid irritation.

Will SMACNE dry my skin?

SMACNE’s active ingredients include aloe vera, hyaluronic acid and jojoba oil to help keep your skin from drying. However, if you already have very dry skin before using SMACNE, we recommend using a moisturizer after using SMACNE to help hydrate your skin. Just make sure to use a moisturizer that’s non-comedogenic—that is, it won’t clog your pores!

I just started using SMACNE. Why is my skin breaking out?

If you just started using SMACNE and you have an acne flare-up, don’t worry—this happens when you start a new treatment! This is called purging, where your dead skin cells and excess oil are being “purged” from deep within your pores. It’s a sign that the active ingredients in SMACNE are working, and should resolve itself once your pores are cleared out and your skin adjusts to the treatment. We talk about this briefly in our FAQs but we also have an in-depth explanation of this here on our blog.

How long will it take before I start seeing results?

Most people who try SMACNE see results immediately, while it takes time for others before they start seeing results. The amount of time it takes depends on your skin type and your lifestyle. The trick, as is with every new treatment that you begin, is consistency: you have to use SMACNE religiously twice every day and stick to the treatment for at least 4-6 weeks to start seeing results (although most people see results on weeks 3-4). On average, skin starts to clear up by the second or third week of using SMACNE consistently. Patience is key—and it helps to make lifestyle changes along with the treatment!

We’ve covered your most frequently asked questions about usage—we hope that you find the answers that you’re looking for in this guide!
